Colts Update DEC 2022

After the first proper season in 3 years came to a close, there was no rest for the wicked for the men at Forshaw. The season saw a group of 55 men endure countless lessons that measure one's character, and in season 2023 these men are out for redemption and consolidation of those lessons learnt. The pre-Christmas, pre-season block saw close to 45 committed, enthusiastic members of the Colts Program begin their road to redemption with a solid six-week program that featured a friendly combined session with Eastwood Colts at Forshaw on the 10th of December.  Pre - season can be long and tiresome with nothing to hold yourself accountable to. George Gargoulakis Head Coach of Colts at Southern Districts highlighted that this has been one of the best Colts Preseasons yet, with great player attendance and positional competition. George furthered this by commenting that the hard work of the recruitment drive of the past two seasons has really assisted in establishing a core group of athletes that is an active ingredient to instilling success within this current group.

The Scrimmage

The day at Forshaw had it all. Coach the coach's workshops, player integration and celebrations through cultural food sharing. The day highlighted an end to a gruelling six-week induction pre-Christmas for both clubs and provided an opportunity for those players at both clubs to showcase their claims for season 2023. The scrimmage day saw coaches from Eastwood and Southern Districts join forces and collaboratively run a coaching session that entailed skill development as well as a scrimmage that both coaches believe is a key ingredient to keeping players engaged throughout the festive season.

George and David Telfer (Head Coach Eastwood Colts) believe that we need to be better in providing these opportunities. Opportunities like this provide a platform for collaboration and competition which in turn makes the competition better and stronger. Rugby is known for its values and by emphasising this event we have showcased why Rugby is superior in providing athletes and coaches with an opportunity to show the power of inclusion.

A massive congratulations should be extended to both George Gargoulakis of Southern Districts and David Telfer of Eastwood, as well as their respective staff and playing groups for their active participation of the day which will see another scrimmage date being locked in for late February of 2023.  I would like to congratulate our Head Coach George Gargoulakis and his team of Rugby and S&C coaches, Trevor Walker (Colts Performance Manager) and David Telfer Eastwoods Head Coach and his team.

Thanks to everyone who participated from both clubs and a great way to close off 2022 and this week was the last week of training and what a great week to finish the year on a high.

Merry Christmas and a Happy and safe New Year to everyone from Southern Districts Colts, we look forward to ripping in again in January 2023.
