Vale - Ken Sadler Life Member

Sadly we advise that SDRC Life Member Ken Sadler passed away aged 90 a few days after suffering a stroke on Christmas Day.

Father to Ann, Peter and Andrew, the timing of his passing is very sad and compounded by the recent passing of his wonderful wife Marie. That they are now reunited, in many ways, is a blessing.

Ken was a stalwart of St George Rugby Club and his commitment to the Club which he served for many years and in many roles was unprecedented. He was one of the true characters of the game we love and in life itself.

He had some rugby in him that’s for sure:

  • Half Back for St George from 1952 - 1962

  • 156 Club Games with 119 of those in 1st Grade

  • Lots of Minor rep rugby including Metropolitan, South Harbour & multiple Barbarians

  • Was lucky to reach 3 x Grand Finals taking home the 1957 Premiership

  • In that game he was awarded Best & Fairest

After his playing time ended, he went on to do many roles for many years , right up to 1988. (Manager / Club Committee / Selector / Tour Manager). When the clubs amalgamated and Southern Districts formed, he was 1st Grade Manager for their inaugural year.

He was honoured by the members of SDRC with Life Membership in 2016.

Ken was well known and well regarded in many quarters outside of rugby including Cronulla Golf Club, Royal Motor Yacht Club Port Hacking and in his early years, Wanda Surf Club.

RIP Ken and our condolences to Ann, Peter, Andrew and the extended family.
