Thanks Grant “Skello” Skelton

When Favourite Son, Grant Skelton, joined the club as Commercial General Manager 18 months ago, we didn’t expect his proposed changes to be made so rapidly. In just a few short months, he managed to refurbish the club interiors, positioning it for a long queue of functions, changed the food offerings, upgraded the beer system, and set the club up to trade outside of rugby hours.

He also organised the build of a new field-side entrance to the Club, making it more accessible to our supporters on game day.

Behind the scenes, Skello was instrumental in the negotiations with the council for our new ground facility lease and introduced more than a dozen new sponsors to the club. He also helped multiple players find employment with local businesses and secure seasonal accommodation. On top of that, he managed the rugby game day administration with other Shute Shield clubs and the planning/ordering of new kit and merchandise for the 2024 season.

It’s now time for him to return to his corporate career, spend more time with his family, and enjoy rugby from the sidelines. He will be finishing up at the end of May.

We will still have his energetic presence in and around the club as he continues his commitment through volunteering.

We asked him to reflect on his time at the helm of commercial operations:

“I’m super grateful to have been able to contribute to our community and the Rugby Club. All of the players, fans, volunteers, sponsors, mates, my family, and indeed everyone getting around our club has been highly rewarding. A massive thanks to you all. See you down there.”

Thank you Skello, for everything you’ve done. We are in a better place and look forward to seeing you around.
