COLTS IN 2025
The Southern Districts Rugby Club Colts squad is gearing up for an exciting 2025 season, ushering in a new era under Head Coach Jake Holman. Supported by Bracken Henry and Jordan McGregor, with the added mentorship of Jed Holloway, who will connect via weekly Zoom calls from the USA, the team is poised for a strong start. George Gargoulakis has transitioned to grade rugby, leaving a solid foundation for the incoming coaching staff to build upon.
A critical aim of the Colts program is to bridge the gap between schoolboy rugby and the grade competition, preparing young players to excel at the next level. Training kicked off on November 6th with with an introductory meeting with the coaches, followed by testing and training. It was a tremendous turnout.
Southern Districts development pathway has made notable strides in recent years, with a focus on high-performance conditioning and sports science supported by the University of Wollongong. Access to the club's high-performance gym, dedicated training fields, and collaborative sessions with senior grades fosters a “one club” ethos, bolstering club spirit and unity. Scott Fava and Matt Barr are at the forefront of cultivating a strong club culture, drawing parallels to the NRL Bulldogs’ focus on club culture, work ethic, club first mentality and importantly building from within.
The club’s Colts program has recently produced remarkable talent, with alumni such as Brandon Paenga-Amosa, Blake Schoupp, Matt Gibbon, Lukhan Salakaia-Loto, Nathan Lawson (Dual Olympian), Allan Alaalatoa, Rahboni Warren-Vosayaco, Bayley Kuenzle, and Connor Young (Canada) progressing to represent Wallabies, Australian 7s, and Super Rugby teams. Southern Districts is proud of its legacy and looks forward to seeing more Colts players advance into the senior ranks, adding to this impressive list of achievers.
With the pieces in place, 2025 promises to be another defining year for the club.
